Westlife es un grupo de pop irlandés. Su música está compuesta mayoritariamente por baladas y algunas canciones de pop sueco. También han hecho canciones bailables y baladas de corte adulto, y covers de clásicos como Abba, Phil Collins, Barry Manilow o Billy Joel. Han grabado al lado de artistas de como Cristian Castro, (Flying Without Wings), Mariah Carey (Against All Odds) o Diana Ross (When yo tell me that you love Me).

El grupo obtuvo un éxito notable en el Reino Unido e Irlanda, así como en Asia y Sudamérica. En su país de origen, los números uno conseguidos superan la decena. Catorce de sus singles han llegado al número uno de las listas del Reino Unido entre los años 1999 y 2005. Sus primeros siete singles entraron directamente en el número uno de las listas. Tienen un record en el Wembley Arena con 23 sold out nights, MAS DE 50 millones de álbumes vendidos en todo el mundo y 7 álbumes en el número uno.

Historia

Se formaron a finales de 1998, apoyados por el manager Louis Walsh y Ronan Keating, ex integrante de Boyzone (grupo irlandés que acababa de separarse), a partir del proyecto IOU. Todo comienza en Sligo donde Mark Feehily, Shane Filan y Kian Egan ya hacían muestras de su talento, con lo que Louish Walsh viendolos en un programa cantando en un hospital decide contactarlos, pero no tenía como. La madre de Shane, originaria del mismo lugar que Lousih Walsh, habló con este, y sin oposición alguna accedió a probarlos un poco más. Pero ni Ronan Keating, ni Louis Walsh estaban conformes con el nombre del grupo ni con sus otros dos integrantes, por lo que fueron a Dublin en busca de imagen, voz y carisma, y quienes los esperaban serían Nicky Byrne, quien había acabado de llegar de una temporada de entrenamiento con el Leeds United de Inglaterra y decidió cantar en la audición con el corazón; y Bryan Mcfadden, quien ya tenía un poco de experiencia en el canto por su padre.

Desde ese momento, el destino marcaría un futuro solo lleno de exitos, causando revuelo en todo el mundo, con records mundiales con canciones como "My Love", "Bop Bop Baby" y mas. Y es que tanta armonía, sencillez, carisma y talento solo podía traer buenas nuevas para la nueva banda de chicos.

El 4 de marzo de 2004, en una conferencia de prensa en Dublín, los integrantes del grupo anunciaron la salida de uno de sus miembros, Brian McFadden, que abandonaba el grupo porque necesitaba pasar más tiempo con su familia. Curiosamente alrededor de esa fecha, ya había salido al mercado Obvious, el segundo sencillo de Turnaround, su quinto álbum.

Tras esto, Westlife lanzó discretamente un disco de canciones de Frank Sinatra, el cual lleva por nombre Allow Us To Be Frank, el 8 de noviembre de 2004, llegando a la primera posición en las listas.

El 31 de octubre de 2005 se dio a conocer Face To Face, la primera producción importante desde la salida de McFadden, que alcanzó de nuevo un primer puesto en las listas de ventas. De este álbum se lanzó You raise me up el 24 de septiembre de 2005, alcanzado rápidamente la primera posición, ganando su cuarto record ese año compitiendo contra Mcfly, Black Eyed Peas, James Blunt y Daniel Powter. El 12 de diciembre del mismo año se lanzó When you tell me that you love me con la colaboración de Diana Ross, logrando la segunda posición. Mismo puesto alcanzó Amazing, del 20 de febrero de 2006.

El 20 de noviembre de 2006 se lanzó la octava producción de Westlife, The Love album que llegó a la primera posición compitiendo con álbumes de Oasis, U2, George Michael y The Beatles. El single The Rose, sacado el 6 de noviembre, alcanzó también gran éxito.

Entre los principales logros de la banda, están el haber conseguido colocar 14 singles en el primer puesto del Reino Unido, vender más de 40 millones de copias en todo el mundo, tener 6 certificados multiplatinos de disco así como otros premios entre los que se destacan dos Brit Awards y un MTV Europe Music Awards.

La banda ha sido de las más grandes dentro de las exitosas boy-bands, sus actualmente cuatro integrantes demuestran una magnifica armonía en los cd's y en vivo, además de que sus coreografías son refrescantes y nuevas.

El último cd de la banda, Back Home, ya esta a la venta, y su primer sencillo es "Home", el cual ya ha traído buenos puestos mundiales. Ahora quieren rematar con el segundo sencillo, "Us Against The World", una muy bonita canción, excelentemente interpretada por los cuatro irlandeses.

El lanzamiento de Back Home trae las mejores expectativas de Westlife y sus fans, pues como dicen ellos:"Este disco sera el mejor para darnos un descanso de un año", con lo que proclaman la llegada de una exitosa venta, y anuncian una gira mundial muy grande y extenuante con lo que le daran paso a un descanso. Home que es el nuevo sencillo de este álbum entro de primero a las listas británicas y esta de 3 en los charts, el álbum Back Home esta de segundo en el UK.

LO ÙLTIMO QUE NOS ENTREGARON WESTLIFE EL AÑO PASADO 2007...

Westlife llegan con nuevo disco el 5 de noviembre y se titulará Back Home

Menuda noticia para los fans del grupo Westlife, nos enteramos que han vuelto a grabar y se encuentran actualmente preparando su nuevo disco de estudio que se titulará Back Home.

Recordemos que desde el 2006 Westlife no producía ningun disco nuevo, pero ahora han revelado que el 5 sus seguidores tendrán nuevo material que contendrá 12 temas.



El sencillo promocional de Back Home es el tema "Home" y se prevé que se empiece a escuchar en varias estaciones de radio de Irlanda una semana antes, esperemos que sea lo mismo para el mundo entero.
